To all alumni, friends and supporters of the MCTS Whippets:

The Mobile County Training School Alumni Association Historic and Recognition Committee, under the leadership of Mr. Isaiah Pinkney, has been working very hard to get physical names and markers on the MCTS campus for several years. The committee has identified every building and several prominent locations on campus for signage and markers. The committee has recommended that specific names be placed on all the building, and the general alumni body agreed several years ago to make this happen. Mr. Pinkney has shared this information with and received permission from Mr. Patterson, the current MCTS Middle School principal, acknowledging his okay to move forward with the process.

Therefore, Mr. Pinkney and the committee have reached out to Dr. Reginald Crenshaw, the area school board representative and school board President, through a letter and telephone conversation detailing the body’s desire to get permission from the school board to proceed with our plans. Mr. Pinkney was instructed by Dr. Crenshaw that the school board will allow only two buildings to be named at one time. Therefore, the MCTSAA executive committee and class representatives called a special meeting on Tuesday night, September 6, 2022 and agreed to request that the first two buildings on campus receiving official recognition for the historical naming would be, The Vigor, Baker, Gaines building, the oldest building on campus. And, the Science building would be the Jeff Giles- La Dresta Scott building, which is the second oldest building on campus.

Mr. Pinkney was provided guidance by Dr. Crenshaw that the alumni must formerly request these actions in writing by doing the following. The submission of these two buildings to be named to Dr. Reginald Crenshaw and the School Superintendent, with a petition of names from alumni and supporters requesting this action be taken by the school board. Therefore, we are reaching out to all alumni and supporters to sign your name to this petition to be submitted with this request as soon as possible.
